FRENCH
SPANISH

The majority of our French classes are taught by native-speaking teachers who employ a variety of teaching activities to engage students and develop their skills in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the language. Classes are available for true beginners to advanced level C1 students.  If you are unsure of your level you may take a level assessment

French classes A1 through C2 use books, view the details here.

 

Last Fall, we began to use the European system to distinguish the different language levels. Please see descriptions to assist you in choosing the proper course.

 

A1 (No experience): 

This class is designed to introduce students to French;--They will begin forming a foundation of how to read, write, speak, and understand.

 

A1+: 

This class is designed to introduce students to French;--They will begin forming a foundation of how to read, write, speak, and understand.

 

 

A1 ++ 

This class is designed to introduce students to French--They will begin forming a foundation of how to read, write, speak, and understand. This class is for Beginners with experience.

 

A1++++: 

Continuation of last semester's class. 

 

 

A2: 

This class will work with students who have already learned the passé composé and the impératif.  They will begin learning the imparfait tenses as well as developing their reading and writing skills. Course grammar includes placement of adjectives, relation of tenses, and expressions of opinion and advice.

 

 

A2++: 

This course is for students who will learn how to:

  • Use the future, subjunctive and conditional tenses 

  • Understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of everyday life (e.g. very basic personal & family information, shopping, local geography, employment.)

  • Communicate simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.

  • Describe in simple terms his/her background, immediate environment, and basic needs.

 

B1: 

Can understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar subjects in work, school, leisure activities, etc. Can manage in most situations that come up when traveling in a region where the language is spoken. Can produce a simple and cohesive text on familiar subjects or subjects of personal interest. Can narrate an event, an experience or a dream; describe a desire or goal, and outline reasons or explanations behind a project or idea.

 

 

 

B2

Can understand the main ideas of concrete or abstract topics in a complex text, including a technical article in the user’s area of expertise. Can communicate with a degree of spontaneity and fluency during a conversation with a native speaker, in a way that is comfortable for everyone. Can speak in a clear, detailed way on a number of subjects; express an opinion on current affairs, giving the advantages and disadvantages of the various options.

 

C1:

Can read, understand and analyze masterpieces of French literature. Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Can produce clear, well structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing a controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors, and cohesive devices. 

 

 

 

 

 

A1: 

Beginner Spanish

This course is for students who have little to no background in Spanish. They will begin building a foundation of reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking skills with basic vocabulary and grammar.

 

B1: 

Intermediate Spanish

This course is designed for students with some experience in Spanish who feel they need a comprehensive review of the essential grammatical, linguistic and communicative structures covered in elementary level courses prior to taking an intermediate level course. 

 

B2: 

Advanced Spanish

This course is designed for students with some experience in Spanish who feel they need a comprehensive review of the essential grammatical, linguistic and communicative structures covered in elementary level courses prior to taking a C1 Spanish level course.

 

C1:

Advanced Spanish Reading for Speaking 

Appealing Spanish short stories or short novels will be read and discussed, emphasizing fluency practice, feedback, remedial work on grammar & pronunciation and enhancement of vocabulary.

 

ITALIAN

 

A1:

Students in this class should have little to no knowledge of Italian, and will be introduced to the basics.

 

A2: 

Students in this class have already learned the basics, and will develop their skills in reading, writing, listening and understanding.

ARABIC

Beginners 

Students in this class should have little to no knowledge, and will be introduced to the basics.

 

Intermediate

Students at this level will have already learned the basics, and will continue to perfect their language skills at this level.

Advanced:

 Students in this class have already learned the basics, and will develop their skills in reading, writing, listening and understanding.
