Volunteer for the Mediathèque ?
For many years members have given us about 3000 books. The Library Committee, under the guidance of Board Member and professional Librarian, Dominique Coulombe and Director Magali Boutiot has started sorting out all these books, eliminating the damaged ones and selling the ones that do not fit with our goals.
The Main goal of the Committee is that before the summer of 2009, the Alliance Française de Providence will open its library and mediathèque as a true lending institution.
Please, join them to help in this great effort, they need you to sort out the books, to catalogue them and to raise money to buy new ones.
We need sponsors and book donors
None of this will be accomplished without funds. The Alliance has already applied for a $ 1,000.00 grant from the Federation of Alliances Françaises in Chicago but we will need much more to make this dream a reality : A great Francophone médiathèque in Providence. You can donate funds that will be specifically dedicated to the library or you can donate French books in good condition. The Alliance will appreciate your generosity and your name will appear on the walls of the library and on this website.
We need readers
In this age of the all powerful Internet, where readers seem to be in short supply and images have replaced words, we call on you to come an enjoy. So, love to read ? Just beginning to learn French perhaps ?, or simply looking to find a nice and quiet place to catch up on some of the Literary prize winning books ? Well, then you'll have to come in and visit our library ! Keep visiting this site to see he latest updates on the pogress we're making to bring you the best French library and mediathèque around.
DVD's, Magazines
Soon, a great choice of French magazines will be available in our headquarters. Right now we are looking for sponsors. You run a local enterprise, your work for a company, you are an individual who simply want to share a passion about a specific topic, you are willing to make a cultural difference, please, visit www.unipresse.com and tell us which French magazine you hope sharing with others here in Providence.
In 2010, a new schedule of permanence will allow all of our members and friends of the Alliance to come and read a magazine, borrow a book or watch TV5.
