SUMMER 2011 Workshops

FRENCH POETRY WORKSHOP

With Carrolle

French Poetry Out-Loud/ 2 hours each
For advanced beginner/intermediate students

Two consecutive Saturday from 1pm-3pm July 9th and July 16th $50 per workshop

Making use of these poems: "La Maison du berger de DeVigny; "Nuits de juin" de Victor Hugo; "L'échelonnement des haies" de Verlaine; et "Ici, toujours ici' de Bonnefoy, the students will refine their listening comprehension, pronunciation and analytical skills as they: discover new vocabulary in context; paraphrase the poem line by line; discuss themes, mood, imagery; learn correct pronunciation, develop an ear for the syllabic nature of French poetry and learn to recite poetry from memory.


Le Petit Prince pour les grandes personnes/The Little Prince for "Big People/adults"

With Carrolle

Saturdays from 1pm-3pm for four weeks. $100 per workshop
(advanced beginner to intermediate students)

This is an active reading and conversation course based on St.Exupery's best-selling novella. The students will: review the passé simple, imparfait and selected other grammatical structures as they arise; refine listening comprehension using the acclaimed recorded version with the beloved French actor Gérard Philippe and others from the Comédie Française (on CD), develop vocabulary, oral, written and analytical skills in discussions/compositions about the plot, characters and themes of Le Petit Prince. We will also examine the various ballet, film, opera recreations this simple tale with deep layers of meaning has inspired, as well as the web-site dedicated to all things "Petit Prince".

4 week – 8-hour course Saturdays August 8th, 13th, 20th, 27th
